Yemaya in Africa and the Whole World
In my recent posts, I did talk about the yemaya prayer for love and the yemaya offerings for love. However, I did not talk about the reverence and respect that is paid to yemaya in Africa and the whole world. In Africa, Yemaya is one of the most popular and revered Orishas by traditionalists and even by believers of other religions.
Although she manifests herself in so many forms and under so many names, Yemaya is one in the soul of the people.
Powerful is Yemaya offerings for love in Latin America
In Latin America, she is also known by the name Yemayá. She is worshiped as the queen of the black sea, assumes the Christian name of La Virgen de la Regla and is part of the Santeria like patron saint of the ports of Havana. The most traditional Yemaya Festival takes place in Salvador, capital of Bahia.
It also takes place on the beach of Rio Vermelho every 2 February. On the same date, Yemanjá is also worshiped in several other beaches, where she is offered candles and flowers, thrown to the sea in small craft boats. In fact, her festivities and tributes start shortly after Christmas and last every January of the following year throughout many Latin American countries. During this time, people give many yemaya offerings for love and attain the loves of their lives.
Other than the yemaya offerings for love, what other offerings are made to yemaya?
There are many other offerings that are made to yemaya. The very first that we mentioned was the yemaya offerings for love. Others include offerings to:
